Beauvoir: Post Overton Hall

Sarah Gladys “Saidee” Cheney Williams Overton (1872-1963) built Beauvoir about 1930. It is my impression that Beauvoir was located in the hills off Tyne BL near Tyne Valley Rd and near Maxwell Ct. She was the widow of Jesse M. Overton. The year of 1922 was terrible for the Overton family: Father Jesse was killed in an auto crash and their son, John Williams Overton, was killed in action in World War I. Then later, about 1943, their daughter was killed in a car crash on her honeymoon.

At Beauvoir, Saidee built out rock gardens to continue her horticular skills.

Their daughter, Harriet Virginia Overton Robinson Gile, resided in Nashville until her death in 1975. After her husband died, she sold her Overton Hills mansion to the Farrells. Saidee resided at Beauvoir until her death in 1963. See also Overton Hall
