Belmont: A Fairfield Offspring outside Clarksville

William McClure Drane (1826-1909) and Amelia Washington Haddox Drane (1836-1906) married 1857. His parents were Dr. Walter H. and Eliza McClure Drane of Drane/ Fairfield. They built Belmont plantation in 1857 on part of Fairfield family farm. He was a tocacconist in the family tradition.





The Belmont name came from the McClure ancestral home in Ireland. Austin Peay State University has an award in his honor for an outstanding member of the graduating class chosen for character, scholarship, leadership and service to the school. See also Drane home/ Fairfield, Minglewood
