Current 1471 Genesis Circle and Mississippi BL (former 911 Kerr Ave.) Memphis, TN
Circa 1900. 2-story large Queen Anne style home
Cornelius Lawrence Clancy (1857-1937) and Julia Pelegrin Clancy (1864-1933) built their home on 7 acres southeast of downtown Memphis. Clancy was a grocer and a real estate investor. He served as a magistrate for the Shelby County Court. In 1903, Squire Clancy subdivided a big chunk of his land to the east and south. He loved flowers and the estate had extensive gardens.
In 1935, two years prior to his death, his daughter Louise Marie Clancy Oglesby (1896-1981) opened a flower business Louise Oglesby Flower Shop at 1421 Union Ave. She resided there with her husband John Leon Oglesby (1891-1948) and their family. After her husband died, in 1948, she moved the business to the carriage house on site. In addition, their daughter, Julie Oglesby Camp and husband Julian Camp (1917-2004) moved into the home. The home remained in the family through 1983 at least.
In 2003, the Clancy home became a community office for Alpha Renaissance Apartments, an affordable housing complex in partnership with the City of Memphis. NR 1983
