3023 Spottswood Ave. near Semmes St. Memphis, TN
Circa 1912. 2.5 story Transitional American Foursquare
Daniel Handley (1861-1933) and Ida Bryan Hanley (1866-1952) built their home east of Memphis. He was a prosperous farmer as the house is larger and nicer than contemporary ones. The land seems to have mostly extended west between Spottswood Ave. and Douglass Ave. His family kept ownership of the property through the Great Depression.
Their sons were Bryan Edward Hanley (1893-1965) and Daneil M. Hanley (1896-1957). The house is now in the Messick-Buntyn neighborhood - east of the Orange Mound area. They donated land for Hanley Elementary School and for the naming of Hanley Headstart, Hanley Street and Hanley Park. NR 2021
