FitzGerald Manor: First Indoor Plumbing in Sumner Co!

562 South Water Ave. (at South Water and Factory Lane) Gallatin, TN

Circa 1869. 2 story Italianate home with a 3rd story watchtower

Henry FitzGerald, an Irish immigrant (1822-1885), and Sarah Williams Bill Fitzgerald (1831-1922) moved in 1865 from Memphis to Gallatin and built a unique home about 1860. They wed in 1850. He built it near his factory so he could see his Gallatin factory handled mercantile and cotton products.

The home allegedly was the first in Sumner Co to have indoor plumbing. FitzGerald (1822-1885) opened the Sumner Cotton Manufacturing Co. in Jan. 1862 and ran a merchant store. Henry and Sarah's son was Guy Hough FitzGerald (1866-1938) who wed Gertle Lytle FitzGerald (1863-1936). In 1986, family descendants still owned the home.

In 1991, Ray and Lori Dorris purchased the home and renovated it. About 1999, it was home to Gallatin Engineer & Survey (GEDS). Then about 2017-2020, Monell's restaurant operated Monell's at FitzGerald Manor.

About 2020, Jeff and Heather Brigstock purchased the property and opened Inside Out Markets and South Water Manor.
