Frank G. Jones Home

440 Vance Ave. Memphis, TN

Circa 1890s. 2-story home with columned front porch

Frank Graham Jones (1858-1927) was a Michigan native who went to Memphis in 1893. He represented Albert Billings and then his son C. K. G. Billings business interests with the street car companies. He was a vice-president of the Memphis Street Railway Co. (MSRC). MSRC was a privately owned company of streetcars and trolleybuses in Memphis between 1895-1960. A new owner bought it in 1890, put electric power on the roads, and recruited Jones to operate it successfully.

In 1901, C.K. G. Billings and Jones established Billings Park, later North Memphis Driving Park. The horse race track became well known, and later Jones took over as sole owner. C.K.G. was very involved in harness racing and the trotting industry and spend great sums in that area across the county.

In the 1970s, the home was used by the Southern Funeral Home.
