Early tavern: Maj. Wm T. Lewis (Fairfield) owned an early "hostelry" in 1796. It was just NE of Nashville's Public Square. By 1806, it changed to Winn's Inn. Later in the 19th century, it was the Nashville Inn. Fire destroyed it about 1856.
In 1926, Old Harding Pike was repaved from South Harpeth @ Linton to the juncture of Old Hickory Rd. & U.S. Hwy 70. Old Harding Pike was another very early route west from Nashville. Hwy 100 took much of its traffic over time. It is still a busy road at its split from Hwy 70 in Bellevue to the juncture with Hwy 100. It has a couple short segments off Hwy 100 further west and then becomes a long rural road off Hwy 96 well south to Fernvale.
In 1933, U.S. Hwy 100 was rerouted from Old Hickory Bl/ DeMoss Bottoms to Pasquo through Vaughn's Gap to the current Hwy 70/100 juncture "The Spit."
