Several sources cite 1914 as the construction date but the original owners are unknown. The four acre Tudor Revival house was owned by Dr. William David Haggard, Jr. (1872-1940) and Mary Laura Champe Haggard (1870-1920) in 1936. Dr. Haggard was a founder of the Southern Surgical Association and its first president. In 1912, he became Professor of Surgery and Clinical Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical School - a role in which he remained until his death. He also was a surgeon and first president of staff at St. Thomas Hospital. From 1925-26, he was the 78th president of the American Medical Association. His second wife was Lucile Holman Haggard. The Haggard family called the home Hillcote.

More recently, in 1976-1992, Kenneth Lewis Roberts (1932-pres) and Anne Foster Cook Roberts (?-1999) owned the property. They married in 1955. He was an associate at Waller, Lansden & Dortch from 1960-66. He then embarked on a successful banking career: Executive VP, Commerce Union Bank, Nashville - 1966-71; President, Chief Exec Officer, Center National Bank, Richmond, VA - 1971-76; President, CEO, Director, First American National Bank, Nashville - 1976-1990. He has also been president and Exec. Dir. of the Frist Foundation. His second wife is Delphine Oman Sloan, widow of John Sloan of Maple Grove. They married in 2002.

Paul C. Buff, a California music producer who moved to Nashville and sells professional photo lighting equipment (White Lightning) lived there from 1992-1994. Then from 1994-1998, Tony and Pamela Iannancio owned the property. He was a lawyer with Baker, Donelson, Bearman & Caldwell who moved to Tampa, and she had event planning and concierge service.

John Coleman (Jay) Hayes III and Leigh Ann Hayes purchased the estate in 1998 and resided there until 2003. Hayes is involved in the construction and engineering industry. Hillcote was the Junior League of Nashville’s Show House in 2002.

Bradley and Harriett Karro bought it in 2003. He has been in healthcare and had been with Caremark when the headquarters moved to Nashville. After leaving Caremark in 2007, he opened Hillcote Advisors as President and CEO in the same year. He is a principal with Crawford-Ross as well. In 2022, the home sits on almost 2 acres.
