James O’Connor (1818-1887) emigrated from Ireland to St. Louis, MO and then to Jackson, TN. He married Anne James O’Conner (1831-1908).

From Jackson-Madison Co.: A Pictorial History

O'Connor was a businessman and made shoes. He was a former mayor of Jackson in 1879, and as mayor he battled the yellow fever epidemic, O’Connor gave orders to shoot anyone from Memphis or Shelby Co. trying to enter Jackson. Another civic legacy was being a founder of the area public school system

Later, their daughter Nina Pauline O’Conner owned (1857-1946) the property. She was an artist.
