John Berry McFerrin (1876-1933) and Grace Ward McFerrin (1883-1936) built their home well east of Memphis in Collierville. McFerrin was in sales with Curric, McGraw Co.. a national wholesale grocery firm.


In 1941, the home was bought by Ronald Berry Smith (1901-1995) and Marjorie Carroll Cabanis Smith (1901-1966). They wed in 1921, and having lived in Michigan, moved to Collierville. One son, Richard C. Smith was influential in the equine business. He was a founding member of the Memphis Quarter Horse Association and spearheaded the creation of the Show Place Arena at the Agricenter. Next, son Harland Lee Smith (1923-2011) and Betty Jane Bouton Smith resided there. Smith worked with Delta Refining Comp. and Southern Petroleum. His second wife was Sylvia Caldwell Hills Smith. They moved to Jackson, TN. It was passed to Bob and Mary Jean Smith and Mary Nell Campbell Smith. NR 1991
