Mallory House

Mallory Lane Franklin, TN - about 4 miles north of Franklin

Circa 1815

John Mallory (1780-1860) and Sarah Crockett Mallory (1787-1870) wed in 1812. Sarah was the daughter of Maj. Andrew and Sarah Crockett of A. Crockett House/ Crockett-Know Mallory House hosted a nearly 110-acre farm. They purchased about 105 acres from Elizabeth Spencer.

A grandson, (James) William Mallory (1857-1893), inherited the property and married Mary "Mami" Buford Mallory (1861-1939) in 1878. Mary was the daughter of Thomas and Sallie Whitsett Buford Spencer. Thomas was a huge longhunter in the early days of settling Middle Tennessee and known as big Foot Spencer. So Mary had family ties to the Mallory land into which she married. Mary remained after James' death. She remarried to John Wesley McFadden (1842-1920) in 1896.

In 1912, fire destroyed the home. The Mallory Springhouse remains off Mallory Lane. The family is remembered with Mallory Lane, Mallory Valley. See Crockett House/ Crockett-Knox House
