Manor Hall built by Martin Luther Stockard (1821-1877) and Ann Elizabeth Caldwell Stockard (1833-1865) in Mt. Pleasant.

The home is called one of the best examples of Greek Revival architecture styles in the South. It originally had more than 1,200 acres. (Martin’s first wife was Carmilla A. Griffin Stockard - 1830-1850.) The report from the National Register of Historic Places for the Pleasant Hill historic community notes that Pleasant Street likely originated as a second driveway to connect Manor Hall with then-Hampshire Road (current Hay Long Ave.).

In 1874, Martin was attacked at his house and three years later, died from those wounds. Afterward, Rev. John Stephenson Frierson (1829-1896) and his second wife Martha Granberry Frierson (1833-1919) purchased property. (Rev. Frierson’s first wife was Martha Jordan Frierson - 1831-1866.) He was pastor of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, president of the board of Mt. Pleasant Female Academy, and a board member of The Atheneaum. Rev. Frierson helped start Hay Long College - which was located nearby.

Their son, John Stephenson Frierson, Jr. (1873-1925) married Zara Lydia Rohm Frierson (1877-1966) in 1900. Zara resided there until her death. Then their granddaughter Frances Frierson Douglas lived there until her death.

In 1936, it was still owned by family members of Frierson and Granberry. In 1999, James “Jim” Richardson Hudson (1941-2014) and Pamela “Pam” Wilsford Hudson owned Manor Hall. They returned from global traveling to Maury County. Pam was residing at Manor in 2021 when it sustained damage from a storm.
