From Storybook Memphis
The home is part of the Victorian Village district. Built as a wedding gift for Mollie Fontaine Taylor (1865-1939) and Dr. William Wood Taylor (1854-1925). Dr. Taylor was a prominent physician and surgeon. The home was across street from the Fontaine parents, Nolan and Virginia Fontaine of Woodruff-Fontaine House. Mollie remained there until her death in 1939.
In the 1950s, Eldridge Wright purchased and moved into the Taylor House and also save a small carriage house from his parents' former home.
About a decade later, in the 1960s, Wright sold the home to Ira Sachs, Sr. He repurposed it into a "legendary" party locale and made the fourth floor his bedroom.
The next owner was Bill Carrier in 1985. He was married to Karen Blcokman Carrier. He was a lighting director for movies, and she was a caterer from New York. They continued the trend of about a decade of residence. The Carriers transformed the old carriage house into Beautiful Sounds, a recording studio.
After attempting to sell the property, the Carriers took it off the market and changed direction. From 1994-96, they were on an arduous journey to modify the house into a fine-dining restaurant called Cielo. Karen evolved the concept again to open the Mollie Fontaine Lounge about 2024. Karen Carrier, renowned chief, owns the place and maintains a safe, bohemian atmosphere. Carrier has also been involved with Another Roadside Attraction Catering, Automatic Slims Tonga Club, The Beauty Shop Restaurant, Do Sushi, Noodle Doodle do, and Bar DKDC Social Club.
