Pegues-Moore Home
539 East Main St. Jackson, TN
Circa 1880. 2.5 story Queen Anne style
The Pegues-Moore House was in the Huntersville area west of Madison Co.
Evelyn Mary “Eva” Pegues (1864-1959) built this home about 1880. Her brother Hazael Hewitt Pegues inherited about 1,000 acres from his grandfather. Her sister Ann Pegues Tomlin lived next door on family property. In 1920, Evelyn was a participant in the women’s suffrage movement in Washington, D.C. pushing for the 19th Amendment.
In the 1940s, local photographer Robert A. Moore owned the home. He founded the Moore Studio in 1903. The business is still active with its fourth owner carrying on its traditions. See Tomlin Home
