Circa 1878. 2-story red brick with octagonal 2-story tower on right side
James Stuart Pilcher (1840-1934) and Margaret Hamilton Campbell Pilcher (1843-1921) built their home on a hillside south of downtown Nashville. They wed in 1843. Pilcher was a prominent attorney and came to Nashville via Mississippi and Texas. Pilcher graduated from Cumberland University law school. Pilcher helped form the TN Bar Association. Margaret's parents were William B. and Fanny Campbell of Camp Bell in Lebanon. Campbell was a former governor of Tennessee. Margaret organized the Campbell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1894 and was the second chapter created in Nashville.
Hamilton descendant James "Jim" Hamilton resided in the home and was Metro Nashville Council representative for the area in the 1960s/70s. After Hamilton's death, his children had maintained the home.
In 2014, the property was demolished for a Virgin Hotel. See Camp Bell
